"Easy Living"
by Preston Sturges
by appointment only on
Saturday, April 19, 2008
11:00am - 2:00pm
The Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge is seeking five men and three women for their
upcoming summer production of the Preston Sturges screwball comedy, "Easy Living".
Based on the classic 1936 film , Easy Living introduces us to quirky Mary Smith, a
down-on-her-luck stenographer for The Boys' Constant Companion who is mistaken for the
mistress of a powerful Wall Street tycoon and soon finds herself living the life of Riley when
everyone tries to use her to gain favor from her powerful "boyfriend." Mary uses it all to her
advantage, leveraging herself out of a tight situation, and even finding romance in the process.
Classic screwball antics, slapstick humor, and delicious dialogue from one of America’s greatest
comedy writers.
"Easy Living" is directed by Billie McBride (Denver Children Theatre's "Sleeping Beauty"
and Arvada Center's "House of Blue Leaves"). Christopher Willard ("Hidden", "The Hobbit") is
adapting the script.
Rehearsals for "Easy Living" will begin in late April/early May and will primarily be on
weekends. The show opens at the Backstage Theatre on June 26 and plays June 27, 28, July 10,
11, 12, 24, 25, 26, 27, August 7, 8, 9, 10 at 7:30 PM. All positions are paid. Housing available
