The award-winning Backstage Children's Theatre in Breckenridge is looking to cast three children in its summer production of "Babe the Sheep Pig". This title replaces a previously planned production of "Curious George".
To be cast: 3 children (male or female), ages 7 thru 14 to play puppies, ducks, and various characters throughout the play.
Based on the book by Dick King-Smith, this adaptation by renowned children's theatre dramatist David Wood tells the story of a plucky pig who defied all expectations to become a champion sheep-herder. Told with great humor, joy, and heartwarming sincerity, this is a tale that shows how determination, hard-work, and good manners can help to achieve most any goal.
The show is directed by Backstage Theatre Artistic Director Christopher Willard.
Those auditioning will be asked to tell a one-minute story and participate in an improvisation. No advance perusal scripts are available.
Auditions are by individual appointment only and will be held at the Breckenridge Theatre, 121 S. Ridge Street in Breckenridge, on:
Sunday, March 29, 2009
1pm - 3pm
Babe the Sheep Pig will begin rehearsals in May. Rehearsals are flexible with schedules of the actors. Performances are alternating weekends beginning July 3 thru August 30, 2009. Please note that these positions are not paid.
The Backstage Children's Theatre was created in 2006 by Christopher Willard and is a recipient of two 2007 Denver Post Ovation awards and a Colorado Backstage Spotlight award for its production of "The Hobbit" which toured the Denver metro last spring. The Backstage Children's Theatre recently commissioned comedienne Edith Weiss to write its summer hit, "Two Dumb Dogs", which received three 2008 Marlowe awards, including Best Children's Play.
