New Voices

Backstage Theatre announces an exciting new program designed to provide a unique theatrical experience to its patrons and local theatre artists alike.

"New Voices" is a monthly play reading series held at the Breckenridge Theatre, 121 South Ridge Street in Breckenridge.

The series gives audiences a chance to experience new works for the theatre as interpreted by local talent.

According to series founder (and Backstage Artistic Director) Christopher Willard, "The New Voices series will offer a constructive, low-risk arena in which to explore new works of interest in greater depth. Its mission is three fold. We’re not only focused on presenting new unpublished and unproduced work, but we hope to discover and develop new directors who will help shape the readings and new actors and actresses who will be invaluable in bringing these plays to life."

Backstage Theatre invites all with even a burgeoning interest in the performing arts to participate. According to Willard, the format of the readings will de-emphasize technical elements and focus on the words and the acting. "That’s what it’s all about,' Willard explains. "Tell the stories using simple skills of interpretation. Scripts in hand or on music stands, no memorization required. If anyone has ever had any interest in discovering what it’s like to act on stage, this would be the perfect, least pressure-filled way to find out."

The "New Voices" series promises to be surprising and (at times) unorthodox as is evidenced in its initial offering.

Play readings will be held on the following Tuesdays at 7:30pm:
January 15, 2008
February 19, 2008
March 4, 2008
April 15, 2008

Doors open at 7pm. No reservations accepted. Free to the public.
