Featuring Leslie Randle Chapman, JP Devine, Chloe King, Dustin Murphy, Jason Testerman and Christopher Willard
Backstage Children’s Theatre Series moves into its second year with a new adaptation of
J.R.R. Tolkein’s beloved children’s classic, "The Hobbit".
'In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit...' So begins the tale which inspired J.R.R.
Tolkein’s famous "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. But before there was the return of the King, there
was Bilbo Baggins the reluctant burglar; his encounters with trolls, goblins, and a devilsssssssh
creature named Gollum; the discovery of a magical ring; and a thrilling adventure that takes him
deep into the Lonely Mountain to reclaim a golden treasure stolen by the feared dragon, Smaug.
"The Hobbit" is a new adaptation of the beloved Tolkien story. In this version,
it is the eve of
Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday. Bilbo’s nephew, Frodo, discovers the book Bilbo has been
writing about his adventures battling trolls, goblins, and the feared dragon, Smaug. Frodo
convinces Bilbo to tell his story, and with the help of other hobbits – as well as the powerful
wizard, Gandalf the Grey – "the greatest adventure" of a simple hobbit comes to magical life.
The show is directed by Geoffrey Kent ("Seascape", CSF & Denver Center Fight Choreographer).
Puppet design is by Cory Gilstrap ("Pee Wee’s Playhouse", Walden Family Playhouse, Arvada
Center). Set Design is by Michael Grittner ("Greater Tuna"). Adaptation is by Christopher
Willard ("Belle and the Beast", "Tribal Tales of Africa" - 2005 Denver Post Ovation Award for Best
Children’s Production).
Inventive staging, puppetry, and special effects are guaranteed to delight!

"Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge says, "Walk-in's are welcome," and they are.
If last Sunday's sold out performance of The Hobbit is any sign, reservations are
