Volunteer of the Year

Volunter of the Year You probably know her as the sassy Clairee featured in last winter’s hit show, "Steel Magnolias". But Bettyjo (BJ) Knapp's contribution to Backstage Theatre has been evident in so many more productions that comprised our 33rd Season.

A gifted designer, BJ lent her artistic skill to help create the looks for the "Greater Tuna", "Steel Magnolias" and "Crazy Bag" sets. If you’re looking for detail painting or the perfect color scheme to use in a room – she’s your gal!

This past summer, BJ also designed the many fanciful props used for the critically lauded Backstage Children’s Theatre production of "The Hobbit". She scoured most of Florida while on vacation, hunting and gathering for the show. Apparently, BJ found the Hobbit-friendly part of the gold coast.

BJ is a steadfast supporter of the theatre, donating much of her time, energy, and resources toward the success of our varied shows. And did we mention what a wonderfully genuine person she is? She’s a breath of fresh air – always enthusiastic and positive – and armed with a wickedly sly sense of humor (usually more playfully self-deprecating than anything else) that takes the edge off any tense situation.

She’s a great gal to have in your corner, and are we lucky to have her!

We are proud to announce B.J. Knapp as the Backstage Theatre Volunteer of the Year!
