Breckenridge Backstage Theatre is accepting headshots and resumes for its summer production of Lend Me A Tenor by Ken Ludwig and directed byPamela Clifton.

Lend Me A Tenor is a door-slamming, dress-dropping farce with mistaken identities, mischievous misunderstandings, and compromising positions. Set in 1934, the story focuses on the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, who welcome a world famous Italian tenor to appear for one night only.  The star arrives late, and through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out.  In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, a nebbish Opera assistant dresses as the tenor to attempt to fool the audience.  A sensation on Broadway and in London’s West End, this madcap, screwball comedy is one of the best American farces ever devised.

Rehearsals (in Denver) begin in late May/early June.  Tech rehearsals (in Breckenridge) begin July 22.  The show opens July 27 and closes August 12.  Performances are Thursdays thru Saturdays at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 6:30 PM.  There will be a special Wednesday 7:30 PM show on August 1.  Lodging available for rehearsals and performances in Breckenridge.  Rehearsal stipend and performance pay.

Available Roles:

TITO MERELLI: The World’s most renowned opera tenor and notorious “ladies man”. Age 30-60.  Tenor/high baritone.

HENRY SAUNDERS: The Cleveland Grand Opera’s general manager. Father to Maggie.  A blowhard who often loses his temper at the slightest mishap. Age 40-60.

MAX: Saunders’ long-suffering assistant, who is forced to take Tito’s place in the opera's lead.  Age 20-40.  Tenor/high baritone.

BELLHOP: A comic relief character who has an ongoing feud with Saunders.  An obnoxious opera fan.  The Bellhop keeps showing up at the hotel suite at the wrong moment, trying to get an autograph and photo of Tito Merelli.  He ends up getting chased around the suite with fear of being strangled.  This role is very high energy.  Precise comic timing and quick wit is required.  Age 20-50.

MARIA MERELLI: Tito’s long-suffering wife.  An “Italian temper”. Leaves Tito early in the play, but ultimately returns to him.  Loves Tito despite his philandering. Age 30-60.
