DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTION
Classification: Full time (40 hours per week), exempt, benefits eligible

About the Theatre
Now in its 51st season, Breckenridge Backstage Theater is the professional year-round operating theater in the beautiful mountains of Breckenridge, CO.
BBT’s mission is to enrich, educate and entertain Summit County residents and visitors of all ages through high-quality professional theatre, community programs, and learning through the arts, for generations to come. BBT’s regular annual programs include five main stage productions, 1-2 youth performed productions (Student Enrichment program), one Community production featuring local artists, one Theatre for the Very Young touring show (for ages 0-8 and their caregivers) and 12 educational classes and camps after school and over the summer. BBT holds an annual gala, readings, discussions, and workshops throughout the year to engage community responses and develop local talent. In addition, the organization supports private event rentals, community collaborations, and free town events.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management & Oversight:
Assembles creative teams with Directors and producing team, focusing on Designers and Assistant Designers. Manages recruitment, offers, contracts, and relationships with designers and agents.
Oversee and manage the hiring of over hire labor for all production phases in collaboration with the Producing Artistic Director.
Recruits, engages, and manages seasonal stage management staff. Works closely with stage managers in advance of the production period and throughout the rehearsal and performances.
Create, manage, and enforce production calendars and deadlines for all mainstage shows, special events, education programs, and private rentals.
Serve as the central communication hub between directors, designers, stage management, and production staff.
Schedule, budget, reconcile, lead, and take notes at all design and production points in the process, ensuring clear communication, all are meeting deadlines and budgets, and actionable design direction.
Leads production meetings and ensures the maintenance and artistic/technical quality of productions post-opening.
Oversees production timelines for rehearsals, builds, load-ins, tech, and performances; allocates stage time as needed for artistic and technical requirements.
Maintain a consistent presence at all designer run-throughs, technical rehearsals, and preview performances.
Manages communications with designers and other vendors, ensuring travel and housing arrangements are made as appropriate. Responsible for the maintenance of production and space usage calendars.
Prepares and maintains up-to-date pay schedules for all designers, stage managers, run-crew members, and any other bi-weekly seasonal employees. Responsible for hiring and managing all designers and stage managers, production staff.
Creates plans to develop all scenic, costume, lighting, sound, properties, and special effects elements. Monitors the production staff and other supervisors to keep track of upkeep of shop materials and inventory of tools, equipment, and instruments.
Develops and oversees department and show budgets, monitors projections and spending; and ensures compliance with organizational financial policies.
Ensures compliance with HR policies, union rules (USA, AEA), and industry standards, including labor, scheduling, and health and safety protocols. Liaise with unions and ensure safety resources and training are available.
Performs other related work as needed.
Technical Supervision & Venue Management:
Serve as the resident expert on the technical capabilities of Backstage Theatre’s performance space.
Manage and maintain a comprehensive inventory of all theatrical equipment (lighting, sound, costumes, tools, etc.).
Implement and maintain efficient organizational systems for all storage areas in both the theatre and off-site storage
Manage all technical needs for space rentals and serve as the on-site contact with other stakeholders and the Town of Breckenridge,
Operate sound board, light board, projector, and mics for off-night events and fundraisers as needed.
Develop and execute a maintenance and operating program which ensures venue systems are operating efficiently, including reporting of issues to town maintenance, general routine space inspections, oversight of cleaners, and strategizing building upgrades. Work to maintain a clean, professional, and presentable venue always.
This position will be the first responder for venue and technical related issues and emergencies and will address urgent repair matters promptly, either directly or by overseeing outside contractors, collaborating with the town and Breck Create, and correcting systemic issues as possible to increase efficiency.
This position will maintain and oversee facility-related safety and security matters, including documents, policies, procedures and manage the distribution and tracking of all keycards.
Qualifications

Proven experience (at least 5+ years in related jobs) in theatrical production management, technical direction, venue management, or a related field.

Comprehensive understanding of theatrical processes.
Organize and communicate information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent social and collaborative skills with an emphasis on building and maintaining meaningful and reciprocal relationships with a wide variety of artists and technicians.
Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and gracefully under pressure.
Ability to develop and manage a budget and stay up to date with financial processes throughout the year.
Technical proficiency in theatrical set construction, lighting, sound, and general stagecraft
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by production needs.
Strong work ethic and a passion for community.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This role will work onsite at Backstage Theatre’s facilities and may require being “on call” and working nights, weekends, holidays, and other times as demanded by venue operations, maintenance, repairs, and emergencies. Occasional remote work will also be possible. When working remotely, use of videoconferencing software and other teleconferencing equipment and a personal internet service connection will be required.
· This role routinely uses equipment such as hand and power tools, electrical/plumbing/mechanical equipment, computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This role requires performing physical labor, lifting/maneuvering 60 pounds or more, climbing/negotiating stairs and ladders and working at heights of up to 30 feet, and entering and working in all areas of a building, including (without limitation) roofs, and utility rooms, is required.

Pay Rate/Range*: Compensation starts at $70,000 annually, per year based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
